An exciting opportunity to join the NHSBSA Digital and Technology team as a Platform Engineer. You will join a team of Platform Engineers to develop, manage and support the AWS cloud platform that hosts our NHSBSA services.

This specialist role within the platform team is to work alongside a team of highly experienced platform engineers to manage and continually enhance the AWS environment. As an IT expert delivering and supporting cloud environments with extensive knowledge of Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery concepts and tools.

Having significant recent practical experience with the use of cloud technologies and in particular knowledge of the AWS cloud environment is essential. Working as part of a team and adopting a hard working professional attitude you will be required to operate with a high degree of autonomy and show creativity when solving highly complex and convoluted problems.

With micro service architectures, API integrations between services and the evolution of cloud platforms these have become the enabler that drives the applications to support the users experience. You will work as part of a multi disciplinary team alongside Solutions Designers, Developers and Automation testers, as well as a full user centred design team.

To work inter-professionally

The digital team will form a digital direction in collaboration with other departments. The platform engineer will support and drive this collaboration alongside the solution designers and work in close teams to support delivery.

To set standards for the use of digital

The NHS needs to manage digital holistically and not so much on an ad hoc basis. It needs a framework within which to operate. The Platform Engineer will play a part in this to help set these standards and draw up accompanying policies. This will ensure consistency and high quality.

To be open and transparent

Because collaboration is the key to success it is important that the Platform Engineer operates in an inclusive manner. This means being open and transparent in their work. They need to be promoting their work through workshops, presentations, internal blogs and newsletters.

This encourages collaboration and feedback within the Digital Team and throughout the organisation. It will also help educate colleagues about digital. This will help achieve the mandate to ensure digital becomes ubiquitous across the organisation.

To work in an agile, iterative and data driven manner

The digital landscape is constantly changing and connected consumers’ expectations are continually evolving. In such an environment the danger is that and a Platform Engineer must be aware of this forever changing landscape and adapt changes in digital to meet the needs of the end user.
